Size Project Reflection
This was a piece that took me much longer than i expected. I stated out wanting to create nail clippers but then changed my mind when Mr. Brooks said that we should try to incorporate content into our work of art. I thought of ADHD pills because it is a relevant issue at school and something my family deals with daily. I did not enjoy this project as much because it was filled with tedious work of winding chicken wire together and other jobs. I also had a hard time finishing and did not like working on it when all the other students in the class were working on a new project. During the next projects I will come in during x-block or lunch if I feel that I am falling behind and will not be able to complete my sculpture by the time it is due. This was a much different experience from the last project because I did not have an exact replica of what I was creating. I had pictures of what I was creating but I did not have a six foot pill bottle so recreating something that I was not looking at was different and much harder for me. I also enjoyed not knowing exactly what my finished product would look like because it game me freedom to create whatever I thought would be best. The size of this project was new to me, I had to work in an open spot and wrestle with large sheets of paper for most of the building process. This was challenging but very fun. I did not enjoy working with such soft, bendy objects. It made my sculpture fragile which was something I had to deal with during the project. Overall I feel that content and size were two large factors in this sculpture which were two of the goals in this project. In the end I enjoyed this project and was happy with the way it came out.

Reflection On Finished Shoe Sculpture

I have not done much work on my shoe since I wrote about it last but it has changed dramatically. By adding glue and gloss my shoe is now very shiny and has the appearance of a bronze shoe. I think my shoe turned out well but there were things I did not like about it. The overall shape of the shoe was realistic but it did not look exactly my shoe. The tongue and the vamp were tricky to create and I thought they gave the shoe a much taller look than it actually has. The toe of the shoe was not very accurate because I could not find any pieces of cardboard which curved like it. In the end I had to take paper and ake slits in it to curve it which made it look somewhat like the original.
The glue and gloss were both materials which went outside of the instructed limitations, but they gave the shoe an extremely realistic look. Other than that I only used the instructed materials. I used pastels to create the color for my shoe. This was also outside the limitations but approved by Mr. Brooks because bronze colored paper is hard to get. This did not make my shoe look exactly like the original but it made it much more eye catching than before. The texture is very accurate which is due to the coat of gloss it has which makes it stiff and smooth. The main goal of this shoe was to create a work of art that was different from the others in the class. My shoe is original but that is mostly due to the shoe I picked to build. I am happy with my shoe and enjoyed this project.

Reflection on shoe sculpture in process
When I first was given the assignment of creating a shoe out of cardboard and paper I thought it would be relatively easy to do. I was wrong, and while this is a project I have enjoyed creating it has also been one I have found very challenging. Building a shoe out of cardboard is challenging because cardboard is a tough material to bend and curve, this is a hindrance to the project because shoes are made to fit well on a foot which is an organic shape. To create curves to replicate the shoe I have cut the cardboard in ways to make bends like the shoe. Shoe laces have also been a large problem I have faced, but Mr. Brooks has been very helpful by showing me a special way to manipulate the cardboard to make movable laces. Finally one of the greatest challenges I faced specifically with my shoe has been accurate color. My shoe is special to me because it was my first pair of shoes I had and they were bronzed so i could keep them forever. Unfortunately I have not seen a bronze color paper or cardboard so I was given the privilege of using pastels on my shoe. This made the shoe come to life and added tremendous beauty to it. With the challenges in the shoe project there have also been successes. My greatest success was the toe of the shoe which I worked on for about a class period but made it very realistic by the time I was finished. The bottom of my shoe is also a part I am proud of, it is very accurate to the real thing and even has a small name plack which my shoe has indicating my name and date of birth. My last major success is the bell on my shoe which is important because it was put on so my family could hear where I was in the house. Each time they hear a Christmas bell it reminds them of me and the first weeks I could walk. I made the bell out of metal and even though it does not ring it reminds me of my first steps more than any other part of the shoe. I have really loved this project and look forward to finishing my shoe Friday.

what I know now
A representational sculpture is a sculpture which is made to look like an object or scene, in other words it is a copy of something from the world or in your mind. An abstract sculpture is a sculpture that is made to look like anything in your imagination, usually they depict emotion or thoughts and can be interpreted in many different ways. A found object sculpture is made from things taken from anywhere and brought together in a certain way to create a sculpture.
A sculpture I remember
The sculpture I remember most is David by Michael Angelo. I saw it in the Accademia Gallery in Florence. This sculpture is so memorable to me because it is one of the most famous sculptures created. It was created during the beginning of the Renaissance which makes it a very influential piece of art. The size of David is what captured my eye, he had a strong yet relaxed posture with a hint of triumph. The detail in every inch of his body is incredible, Michael Angelo was one of the greatest artist in history and this sculpture had a part in giving him that honorable title. It is a piece of art I will never forget
My skills as an artist
I think I am a skilled painter and I have fun doing it. I have trouble sculpting with most objects accept for found objects. I can also come up with many ideas for art projects but they do not always turn out the way I imagined them.
Why I'm taking Intermediate Sculpture
I signed up to take this course becuase I liked the art class I was in last year but did not get to do as much sculpting as i wanted. Now I am able to create art again and sculpt which I love to do.
